Overview
The R&D Coater Specialist provides technical support, including coordinating new and existing product development, facilitating R&D and process improvement projects, and establishing process variable settings and quality requirements. This position requires 80% running a coater and 20% other Technical Specialist duties.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate R&D coater efficiently while maintaining good record keeping on all trials and testing.
- Maintain good housekeeping around Coater.
- Regularly monitor condition of rolls and consumable parts.
- Communicate with Maintenance regarding the mechanical condition of Coater 5 and non-PM equipment changes/needs.
- Establish process variable settings and quality requirements for new and existing product development.
- Communicate requirements to manufacturing.
- Test and approve material.
- Plan, coordinate, and test trials for product development and R&D long-term projects.
- Provide Request for Analysis (RFA) support by analyzing customer requests and developing products that meet the application requirements.
- Test competitive products, analyze different adhesives, silicones, papers, and films, and create test methods for specialized applications.
- Lead and manage projects to include product development, process improvements, cost savings, raw material qualifications, and product testing.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing.
- Evaluate product quality, implement process improvement, and provide solutions to problems/issues.
- Resolve internal and external customer issues and formal complaints with internal and external customer interaction.
- Provide ancillary customer support to include sample requests and print trials.
- Follow all Company safety policies and safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree is desired.
- Minimum one (1) to two (2) years’ experience in pressure sensitive or related manufacturing is desired.
- Technical knowledge of pressure sensitive processes and products is desired.
- Advanced communication skills to include person to person, large group presentation, written, and telephone.
- Ability to work with multiple priorities to achieve desired results.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Utilize critical thinking and planning required to identify short-term and long-term needs.
- Read and interpret documents, such as policy and procedure manuals and contracts.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn Company-specific systems.
- Develop project and daily task outlines: plan, organize, develop, and implement programs, goals, objectives, and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to keep consistent records (test results, trial details, etc).
