What are the responsibilities and job description for the Winder Operator (2nd shift) position at Wausau Coated Products?
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Winder Department Manager, the Winder Lead Operator oversees quality and performance standards, specifications, and delivery requirements in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, non-exempt position; Shift hours are 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or as assigned by the Department Manager.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Perform all Winder Operator duties, as specified in the respective job descriptions.
· Complete Winder start-up and shutdown procedures for the facility.
· Coordinate with other departments to maintain production schedules and ensure continuous operations after normal business hours and weekends, as needed.
· Offer technical guidance to employees.
· Assist with inspection of products and processes, ensuring quality standards are met in accordance with customer and Company specifications.
· Provide positive leadership and motivation, to include lead by example. Provide feedback and input regarding employee performance reviews.
· Assist Winder Dept. Manager in the development of standard operating procedures.
· Implement and train employees regarding new and updated standard operating procedures.
· Ensure Incident Investigations are completed and submitted to leadership in a timely manner.
· Communicate with management regarding employee relations issues, employee progress and safety concerns.
· Communicate effectively between shifts.
· Participate in cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous improvement of processes, methods, productivity, and quality.
· Work with APEX production schedule and move jobs from one winder to another when needed.
· Place jobs on incomplete status in Apex due to issues with job or product being produced.
· Communicate with scheduling about any issues or problems with job(s).
· Assist employees with any questions or concerns about jobs being produced.
· Answer any emails received related to production/jobs.
· Notify Manager when Packaging or Production supplies are running low for reordering.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· High school diploma or GED is required; Associates degree in Supervision or Management is desired.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; Ability to read a rule, microfiche and QuickScan.
· Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
· Excellent communication skills, including written and interpersonal.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form.
· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
· Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
· Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn Company-specific systems.
· Good organizational skills.
· Confidence and professionalism in representing the Company.
· Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and work well under pressure.
