Position Title: Part-Time Court Security Deputy (Less than 1200 hours per year)

Position Overview
Waushara County is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Part-Time Court Security Deputy. This position is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the Government Center and its occupants. The Court Security Deputy will interact with the public, monitor court proceedings, and ensure the security of jurors, defendants, and staff. This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position, requiring less than 1200 hours per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a visible presence within the Government Center, interacting with staff, visitors, and the public.
- Investigate unattended objects and respond to calls for assistance within the Government Center and surrounding County property.
- Provide security for jurors, escort in-custody defendants, and prevent unauthorized physical contact with defendants.
- Monitor access to restricted areas, conduct searches, and ensure courtrooms and public spaces remain secure.
- Maintain daily activity logs and file incident reports in the Spillman records management system.
- Follow established policies and procedures independently while coordinating with other court security staff.
- Promote positive working relationships with the Sheriff’s Office and County departments.
- Other duties as assigned by the Sheriff or designee.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Up to two years of training in Police Science.
- Certification in law enforcement (must be deputized by Waushara County Sheriff).
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public and react appropriately in stressful situations.
- Experience interacting with the public, law enforcement, and court personnel.
- Must maintain annual in-service training and qualify on the shooting range.
- Must have and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
Knowledge and Skills
- Basic understanding of court procedures and the ability to prepare reports.
- Knowledge of radio communication systems and the Spillman records management system.
- Ability to handle difficult situations with common sense and professionalism.
- Effective inmate control techniques and security operations.
Working Conditions
- Potential personal hazard due to interaction with armed individuals.
- Required to work extended periods of walking and standing.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Position involves interacting with inmates and individuals summoned to court.
