WAUSHARA COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Meal Delivery Driver
DEPARTMENT: Department of Aging and Disability Services
FUNCTION:
Responsible for delivering meals to individuals participating in the home delivered meals nutrition program, and for delivery of bulk food to dining centers located within an assigned route. Job-share opportunities available for each designated route, as well as the opportunity to work on a fill-in basis.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs duties in a manner that emphasizes high quality customer service and with an empathetic attitude for elders and individuals with disabilities.
2. Reports to kitchen to pick up and load food and meal supply, and any other miscellaneous items to be dispersed; assures meal count prior to starting each day’s route.
3. Delivers food and meals according to a pre-determined schedule and following safe food handling practices.
4. Abide by all traffic laws and county policy while driving.
5. Assists kitchen staff in monitoring food temperatures and reports concerns immediately.
6. Assures that meals are received by each participant daily. Will observe the general well-being of the participant as part of the program’s “safety check” and report to the Nutrition Manager any concerns.
7. Maintains a daily record of meals delivered. Confirms with participants the number of meals requested for the next day’s delivery.
8. Returns food containers to the kitchen at the end of each day.
9. Will follow department procedures for responding to emergency situations, including contacting management and/or emergency medical assistance when necessary, and waiting for help to arrive.
10. Assures that all money received from participants or dining centers is delivered according to department policy.
11. Maintains a clean and sanitary delivery van, provided by the county, and performs vehicle inspection as required by department policy. Assures vehicles have sufficient gas, and preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner.
12. Will report any vehicle incident to program management immediately and wait for direction on how to proceed.
13. Will follow department No Gift Policy, thereby refusing to accept gifts or tips from participants of the program. Gifts or tips should be returned or donated to the program.
14. Will report any personal vehicle ticketed violations to supervisor within 3 business days.
15. Will inform supervisor of any health issues that may interfere with driving responsibilities.
16. Attends all assigned meetings and trainings.
17. Participates in county-wide emergency response efforts due to a natural disaster, pandemic, or other related event and as directed by program management.
18. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
19. Promote, get along, and work in harmonious relationship with others including but not limited to outside agencies and county departments.
20. Perform other related job duties as assigned.
WORKING ELEMENTS:
A.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Safe Food Handling – training provided within 3 months of employment.
B.
- Ability to be empathetic to and patient with older adults or individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn through training, safe and sanitary processes for proper food service techniques.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to interact with participant pets.
- Skilled at driving a regular sized van confidently for various road conditions and during inclement weather.
- Ability to read and understand maps or directions, and traffic signs.
- Ability to use efficiently a department assigned cell phone.
- Ability to understand and follow program policies and procedures independent of direct supervision.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of program participants.
- Must have a current and valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
C.
Works under direct supervision of the Nutrition Program Manager with program oversight provided by the Department of Aging and Disability Services Director.
D.
Primarily sitting and driving in a vehicle with intermittent standing, walking, bending, and lifting required. Hours are typically scheduled as needed between 10am and 2pm, Monday through Friday.
As a part-time Waushara County employee, drivers may be eligible to cross-train and work additional hours in the kitchen, for the minibus transportation program, or for other special event programs on an on-call and as needed basis (see related job descriptions). Employees must have skill sets sufficient to meet all additional job duties and will be paid the same rate of pay as received for duties as a meal delivery driver.
