Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Emergency Veterinarian to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in emergency medicine and critical care, demonstrating excellent diagnostic, surgical, and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations. You will work in a fast-paced environment, providing urgent medical and surgical care to a variety of animal patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality emergency and critical care to patients in need of urgent medical attention.
- Diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including trauma, toxicities, respiratory distress, shock, and other life-threatening situations.
- Perform emergency procedures and surgeries, such as wound management, C-sections, GDV corrections, splenectomies, and fracture stabilization.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools, including radiology, ultrasound, in-house laboratory testing, and blood transfusion protocols.
- Collaborate with veterinary technicians, specialists, and support staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Effectively communicate with pet owners regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognosis in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Provide guidance on follow-up care and collaborate with primary care veterinarians for case continuity.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records in compliance with hospital policies and industry regulations.
- Participate in continuing education and stay updated on advancements in emergency veterinary medicine.
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, including infection control and handling of hazardous materials.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Active and unrestricted veterinary license in New York.
- DEA license.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in emergency medicine.
- Proficiency in emergency diagnostics, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and quick decision-making skills under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate approach to patient and client care.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an emergency/specialty veterinary hospital.
- Board certification or residency training in emergency and critical care (DACVECC) is a plus.
- Familiarity with advanced imaging modalities and specialized treatments (e.g., CT, CPR protocols).
