The Ambulance Department is a 24 hour department with needs on weekends, nights and holidays.
Primary Functions
Provides care to sick and injured patients in pre-hospital settings. May provide care to patients having more complex medical or trauma problems in extenuating circumstances. Possesses broad-based clinical skills including communication, mentoring, advocacy, critical thinking, accountability for self, peers and staff and assisting in maintaining a healthy work environment.

Minimum Requirements
Education, Experience, and Training
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Paramedic program and possess valid Iowa Paramedic certification; OR meet the requirements to be an RN Exempt Paramedic as specified by the State of Iowa Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services.
- Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record.
- Previous experience as a Paramedic preferred.
- Must have thorough knowledge of emergency care equipment, vehicle operation and maintenance, and advanced Paramedic procedures.
- Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.
- Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.
- Sitting – Approximately 25% of shift.
- Standing– Approximately 50% of shift.
- Walking – Approximately 50% of shift.
- Lifting – Approximately 50 pounds. Must use, and require others to use, when in hospital and/or pre-hospital settings, proper body mechanics and ergonomics and, as applicable, lifting/moving devices.
- Twisting – Infrequent.
- Bending – Moderate.
- Squat/Kneel – Approximately 25% of shift.
