What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Accounts Representative 1.0 FTE position at Waverly Health Center?
SCHEDULE
FTE: 1.0 (40 hours)
Hours are 8:00 to 4:30, Monday through Friday
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Responsible for the accurate receipting and posting of all payments from all payers, insurance companies and patients, visitors and other parties, and for assisting patients with questions regarding payments on their accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately post and account for all money received related to patient accounts
- Remittances from insurance companies, government programs and 3rd party payers
- Electronic payments
- Cash payments
- Accurately process and account for miscellaneous monies not allocated to patient accounts
- Guest trays, cafeteria receipts, medical record reimbursements, Medicare/Medicaid settlements, etc.
- Accurately completes balancing process of all transactions posted to ensure that accounts receivable and general ledger accounts are in balance at the end of the processing day
- Ensure that cash balances are maintained at the appropriate level, cash disbursements are properly documented, differences are resolved and that cash is secure at all times
- Assist patients regarding their accounts in person or via telephone
- Accept payments on accounts
- Set up payment plans
- Answer questions on prior payments
- Provide direction on obtaining financial assistance
- Direct patients to appropriate person for more in-depth questions or issues
- Accurately post adjustments and corrections to patient accounts in a timely manner
- Research credit balances on patient pay accounts and process refunds according to hospital policy
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education, Experience, and Training
- Must possess high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in data entry, medical insurance, accounting, and/or credit and collections preferred.
- Previous experience working in a hospital setting preferred.
- Must have proficiency in clerical skills, computer skills, and phone etiquette.
- Must possess the ability to operate a variety of office machines, including calculator, fax machine, and copy machine.
- Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.
- Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.
