Position Overview:
The Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents, staff, and visitors at Waverly Heights. This individual will work to proactively identify and address safety concerns, participate in the safety committee, assist in emergency situations, and ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed throughout the community.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Safety & Security Patrols:
- Conduct regular rounds to proactively identify and mitigate potential safety risks within the community.
- Check all exterior doors to ensure they are securely closing and locking.
- Perform perimeter checks on foot and via golf cart or vehicle to monitor for suspicious activity or potential hazards.
- Monitor parking lots and garages to ensure vehicles are placarded and parked appropriately.
- Conduct regular checks of common areas, hallways, and stairwells for safety issues.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security incidents.
- Aid emergency personnel (firefighters, police, paramedics) if needed.
- Communicate with staff, residents, and visitors during emergency situations, providing clear instructions and support.
- Safety Committee Participation:
- Actively participate in the community's safety committee, contributing ideas and strategies for improving safety procedures.
- Attend and contribute to regular safety meetings, providing feedback and updates on any ongoing safety concerns or incidents.
- Safety Training & New Hire Orientation:
- Assist in trainings and drills regarding emergency preparedness.
- Assist in the onboarding process for new employees by providing training on safety policies, emergency procedures, and security protocols.
- Ensure that all staff are aware of safety guidelines and are properly trained to respond to various safety and emergency scenarios.
- Incident & Corrective Actions:
- Address safety violations or concerns by issuing corrective actions to staff or residents as needed.
- Follow up on safety violations to ensure corrective measures have been implemented and the situation is resolved.
- Document all incidents and corrective actions in a detailed report for review and future reference.
- Daily Reporting & Recordkeeping:
- Receive and review daily safety reports, taking note of any incidents or ongoing safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety-related incidents, checks, and corrective actions taken.
- Provide reports and updates to the safety committee as needed.
- Support for Special Events:
- Occasionally provide extra security and support for after-hours events, gatherings, or emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants if needed.
- Assist with traffic management and monitoring of event activities to prevent any safety hazards.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress or emergency situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with residents, staff, and emergency personnel.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to identify and resolve safety concerns proactively.
- Prior experience in safety, security, or emergency response roles is preferred.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks, including walking and standing for extended periods both indoors and outdoors in all weather events.
- Valid Driver's License required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to move throughout the facility to interact with residents, staff, and visitors.
- Occasionally may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
