What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Teacher (Floater) position at Waverly Road Child Care Center?
We are looking for someone to fill an assistant teacher (floater) position. This position would be working with infants through preschoolers. It would be for roughly 20-25 hours weekly with the possibility for more hours on weeks where other teachers are out sick / on vacation / etc... Flexibility is a must, although we try our best to work around preferences.
General Job Description:
Assistant teachers work alongside lead teachers, under the supervision of the Director, to assist in the general maintenance of the classroom as well as the execution of lesson plans and the activities within them. The overall purpose of this position is similar to the lead teacher position (i.e. ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the children in their classroom, staying up-to-date on developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) as well as Tennessee’s licensure rules and regulations, etc…), but it comes with fewer responsibilities. Additionally, it is essential that all teaching staff follow the philosophies of WRCCC & work towards furthering the goals of the center.
Daily responsibilities are dependent on the age of the children in the classroom, but, in general, they include:
❖ Greeting parents (and children) at pick-up and drop-off; obtaining information from parents that might be necessary for the care of their children; readying children and their belongings to go home
❖ Participating in and assisting with all classroom and outdoor activities, transition periods throughout the day, meal times, naptime, outdoor play etc…
❖ Assisting with children’s bathroom routines (when necessary)
❖ Taking instruction and guidance from lead teachers / going to the lead teachers for support when necessary
❖ Cleaning and preparing the classroom each day
Periodic Responsibilities include:
❖ Attending necessary annual training as well as staff meetings
❖ Staying up-to-date on DAP and other developments in the childcare field
