THE OPPORTUNITY
Wavicle is seeking an experienced BigQuery (BigQuery) Platform Architect/DBA to provide architecture and implementation direction for projects leveraging BigQuery. The role will be the senior most expert for BigQuery, setting standards and directions for BigQuery usage and be the strategist and trusted advisor on BigQuery and related GCP services at Clients. The role will also support pre-sales/sales as needed.
\n- Set direction and standards for BigQuery environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability.
- Provide direction and expertise on design, implementation and maintenance for applications leveraging BigQuery.
- Lead a team of engineers (and/or DBAs) to manage the overall BigQuery environment, considering SLAs, costs, performance, and other issues.
- Implement security and compliance controls, including access management, auditing, and encryption.
- Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and other teams to support data analytics and reporting needs.
- Manage data integration tasks from diverse sources (e.g., on-premises databases, cloud storage) to BigQuery.
- Automate repetitive tasks using scripting or GCP-native tools (e.g., Cloud Functions, Dataflow).
- Document database designs, procedures, and best practices for the team.
- Proven experience with Google BigQuery (prefer 3 years) and Google Cloud Platform services (5 years)
- Strong proficiency in SQL and BigQuery-specific SQL functions and optimization.
- Familiarity with database performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Experience with GCP billing, cost management, and data query cost optimization in BigQuery.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues efficiently.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or similar.
- Knowledge of cloud-based data security, access control, and data governance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Apache Beam, Cloud Data Fusion, Talend) and data pipeline automation a plus.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Background and experience with other cloud data warehousing solutions (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Snowflake).
- Google Cloud certification (e.g., Professional Cloud Database Engineer, Professional Data Engineer).
- Application migration experience to BigQuery and other GCP services.
- Knowledge of machine learning and AI tools integration with BigQuery.
