JOB DESCRIPTION


JOB TITLE: Assistant Principal - High School - 220 Day Contract

TYPE OF POSITION: Certified

REPORTS TO: High School Principal


POSITION PURPOSE: Provides leadership professionally, ethically, and educationally in all areas of the school program. This person assumes responsibility for the total school program in the absence of the principal. He/she will assist in curriculum development, evaluations, extracurricular accounting and supervision, and summer school director.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.


  • Scheduling of activities daily such as field trips and all evening activities except athletics.
  • Manages the facility utilization master schedule including all athletic facilities at WHS
  • Directs School Day Time Schedules.
  • Develops homeroom schedules, special schedules for activities such as convocations, fog delays and test schedules.
  • Processes Records, Reports and Information.
  • Serves as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator including keeping all required records for fire drills and tornado drills.
  • Responsible for the completion of all bus requests, extracurricular related activity forms, field trip requests, facility rental forms, accident reports, annual activity calendar, monthly calendar and weekly calendar.
  • Responsible for approving all free and reduced lunch applications.
  • Responsible for the completion of all school insurance forms and school insurance waivers.
  • Director of Summer School.
  • Procures all driver education vehicles, completes required forms and verifies details such as insurance.
  • Coordinates securing state approval for classes that are accredited, local approval for non-accredited classes and approval for all recreation programs such as summer camps in athletics.
  • Recruits teaching faculty.
  • Enforces discipline when the Dean is not available.
  • Schedules the use of the facility.
  • Responsible for School Finances.
  • Works with the bookkeeper in verifying correct procedures according to State Board of Accounts and extracurricular accounting regulations.
  • Approves all vouchers and claims.
  • Approves monthly financial reports.
  • Co-signs checks.
  • Works with the principal and department chairs in the development of the Capital Projects Funds and Instructional Material Fund.
  • Responsible for Textbook Adoption and Textbook Rental.
  • Works with department chairs in review and adoption of textbooks according to the state prescribed system.
  • Orders textbooks, maintains inventories, determines charges for damages.
  • Determines textbook rental fees.
  • Approves all free textbook applications.
  • Personnel Responsibility.
  • Assists the principal with evaluations of staff including recommendations for growth and improvement.
  • Assists with personnel recruitment and selection.
  • Contributes to positive morale among all staff while meeting all aspects of the Assistance Principal' s responsibilities.
  • Committee Responsibility.
  • Serves on the committees of Department Chairs and Student Assistance Planning.
  • Works directly with the SRC sponsors and student members.
  • Responsible for building keys including checking them out and maintaining an inventory.
  • Locker assignments.
  • Responsible for student locker assignments, locker cleaning, combination records and locker repair.
  • Performs Other Responsibilities as Assigned by the Principal
  • Assumes responsibility for the total school program in the absence of the principal.
  • Assists in supervision as needed during the day and in the evening.
  • Attends professional conferences and seminars.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
  2. Ability to plan and organize.
  3. Skills in human relations.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.
  5. Five years’ experience as a high school teacher.
  6. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
