Job Description: Special Education Coordinator
Teacher Contract 10 Extended Days
Reports to: Director of Special Services
General Summary:
The Special Education Coordinator will assist in coordinating special education services across the district, support teachers in compliance with instructional best practices, and serve as a resource for students, staff, and families.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to special education teachers and related service providers.
- Develop and implement professional development for teachers, staff, and families.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal special education laws, including IEP development and implementation.
- Serve as a resource to special education teachers, students, parents, and administrators.
- Act as a liaison between schools and external service providers.
- Assist in implementing the district’s IEP system and alternative assessment processes.
- Serve as case conference committee chairperson as needed.
- Remain informed on current research and best practices in special education.
- Coordinate CPI training and ensure staff certification in crisis prevention.
- Work with private schools to develop appropriate programming for students with disabilities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services or the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
- Licensure: Valid Indiana Special Education Teaching License
- Experience: Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting
- Knowledge: Familiarity with IDEA, Article 7, and best practices for special education services
Contract Details:
- Teacher contract with up to 10 extended days
- Mileage reimbursement
