About This Role
The Safety Intern will support the Safety Department in a seasonal food manufacturing operation, assisting with various tasks aimed at promoting a safe and compliant work environment. This role will focus on lock out tag out procedures, understanding and mitigating workplace hazards, implementing engineering controls, and assessing risks associated with the manufacturing process. The intern will assist with safety initiatives, training programs, daily safety meetings, and provide administrative support related to safety reporting, presentations, and workers' compensation.

About This Role

The intern will assist with safety initiatives, training programs, daily safety meetings, and provide administrative support related to safety reporting, presentations, and workers' compensation.
DUTIES INCLUDE
Assist in Hazard Identification
- Help identify and assess workplace hazards, including physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic risks.
- Aid in the implementation of engineering controls and safety protocols to mitigate identified risks.
- Assist with the development and delivery of safety training programs for workers, ensuring all employees understand safety procedures and compliance standards.
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings with the production and safety teams to discuss current safety issues, updates, and initiatives.
- Help prepare safety reports, presentations, and documentation related to safety audits, inspections, and incident reports.
- Assist in tracking and reporting workplace injuries and workers' compensation claims, working closely with HR and management.
- Support safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Assist in evaluating the safety risks of different processes and equipment, making recommendations for improvement as necessary.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Previous experience or coursework related to safety, risk management, or manufacturing environments is preferred, but not required.
- Understanding of workplace safety hazards, engineering measures, risk assessment, and basic safety regulations.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and in a team, good communication skills for reporting and presenting findings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other office software.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity.
- Strong analytical skills.
- This position will work out of our Alluvial location.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Work in an environment where there can be medium to loud noise and in cold temperatures.
- Stand and walk, feel, reach with hands and arms. Occasionally requested to sit and talk or hear.
- A fast-paced environment that requires high attention to details and minimal down time.
- Occasional lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as equipment, machinery, etc. Lifting requirement: Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. independently.
- Other duties as assigned requiring repetitive tasks, use of computer equipment, scheduling, preparing reports, etc. utilizing a computer.
- Work flexible/varying schedules to support the team, customers, and deadlines.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and ability to see all colors.
- You will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, and vibration. Exposure to cleaning products and agents for the sanitation of equipment and machinery regularly.
- Wear appropriate personal protection equipment and adhere to dress code as outlined for working in a food manufacturing facility.
