Through our in-home and center-based programming, we help parents create a learning environment in the home as they become their child’s first and most important teachers.

Summary

Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing daily lesson plans, field trips, experiences, and assuring safety of all students. They work with and manage a classroom aid and volunteers to accomplish daily tasks. The Lead Preschool Teacher works with family educators and families to support students learning both in and out of the classroom.

Essential Job Functions

  • Implements, evaluates, and adapts developmentally appropriate preschool theme-based curriculum based on the ECIPS.
  • Creates and maintains a healthy and safe environment.
  • Implements developmentally appropriate and effective classroom management strategies that align with current behavior management policies and philosophy.
  • Provides a highly structured yet flexible routine in which children and families understand clear expectations.
  • Conducts school conferences to support the bridge between school and home learning.
  • Maintains a high-quality early learning program in accordance with the standards of DHS, NAEYC, Parent Aware, the Early Language & Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO) and the CLASS.
  • Engages in early literacy best practice.
  • Consults and collaborates with classroom assistants to provide a culturally sensitive and diverse classroom and communicates with community agencies to provide additional services to the classroom or to arrange theme enriched field trips.
  • Follows children’s progress using the Individual Growth and Development Indicators (IGDI’s), as well as Work Sampling System (WSS); uses the data to inform instruction and lesson planning and creating child portfolios and progress reports for parents.
  • Create calendar, shop, and prepare snacks for students according to the USDA’s snack guidelines.
  • Sets annual professional development goals and complete an annual work plan designed to reach individual goals.
  • Helps to plan and participate in family events within and outside of the classroom.
  • Attends all supervision meetings, team meetings and staff meetings and trainings as required by supervisor.
  • Help promote Way to Grow through community partnerships, outreach, and Way to Grow special events.
  • Works as a team for the overall success and health of the organization and program.
  • Maintain hours as assigned by supervisor.
  • Participates in training and goal settings while tracking and improving upon personal growth and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and training in child development, early childhood education, authentic assessment.
  • Knowledge and training in social-emotional, literacy and numeracy skill development.
  • Experience using the WSS and other observation and assessment tools.
  • Experience creating and maintaining relationships with community partners.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and the ability to be culturally sensitive, non-judgmental, and open to a variety of parenting styles.
  • Proven leadership skills with strong sense of integrity and loyalty.
  • Knowledge of DHS, NAEYC and Parent Aware expectations, standards, and rules.
  • Proficient with both oral and written forms of the English language (English and Spanish fluency preferred).
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage time.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including days, evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to work in groups and team settings; creative, dependable, and adaptable.
  • Ability to implement the assigned research and evidence-based curricula.
  • Ability to use and teach planning, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer proficiency including word processing, data entry, e-mail, and calendar management.

Education

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)

Experience

  • NAEYC and DHS Teacher qualified.
  • One year program and curriculum development experience.
  • Four years serving diverse populations.
