WPS is a high-achieving west-suburban district of 2,800 students, with one preschool, three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. POSITION SUMMARY
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for overseeing the district’s student information system (SIS) and related data management systems. This role ensures data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance across the district's SIS and reporting platforms. The DBA collaborates with the Systems Administrator and IT Operations Coordinator to streamline workflows and improve data-driven decision-making. The role also contributes to district cybersecurity efforts, focusing on SIS and database protection and supporting state and federal reporting requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS |
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and personal transportation for travel between district buildings.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a K-12 or similar environment preferred.
- Experience with state and federal reporting requirements (e.g., DESE, SIMS).
- Strong knowledge of IT operations, project management, cybersecurity frameworks, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with Google Admin Console, PowerSchool (or similar SIS), and relevant enterprise applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
- Successful completion of CORI, SORI, and fingerprint background checks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but not limited to:
Database & SIS Management
- Administer and maintain PowerSchool SIS, Enrollment, and Special Programs
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls within student information systems
- Ensure system updates, patches, and data backups are executed to protect data integrity
- Oversee Open Architects platform integrations and accounts
Reporting & Data Integrity
- Lead state and federal reporting (SIMS, EPIMS, SSDR, SCS, etc.)
- Validate data accuracy for compliance with DESE and federal requirements
- Provide reports and dashboards to district leaders for decision-making
Data Security & Cybersecurity
- Secure SIS and database configurations, focusing on access controls and data protection
- Support incident response efforts and participate in the cybersecurity response team
- Monitor database access logs and ensure FERPA and data privacy compliance
Training & Documentation
- Train and support administrative staff on PowerSchool and related systems
- Develop user guides, training materials, and internal documentation
- Collaborate with Systems Administrator and IT Operations Coordinator to streamline workflows
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience managing PowerSchool SIS, PowerSchool Enrollment, and PowerSchool Special Programs or similar student information systems
- Strong knowledge of database administration, data security, and access control best practices
- Experience working with state reporting requirements and compliance regulations (DESE reporting, federal reporting, etc.).
- Proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel, report writing, and data extraction.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with IT teams, school administrators, and district leadership.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
