WSCP Summer Program & ESY Program Nurse Position
Programming Responsibilities:
- Collect, review, and update all WSCP Summer Program & ESY student medical records, including physicals, allergies, medical conditions, and pertinent health information.
- Manage Epi-Pen administration, allergy response, and first aid needs to ensure student safety.
- Oversee contagious illness protocols, including symptom monitoring, exposure tracking, and necessary follow-up on transmissions.
- Ensure snack orders align with the allergy and health needs of students.
- Provide annual first aid, heat stroke, and Epi-Pen training for the WSCP Summer Program & ESY staff.
- Document and follow up on accident and injury reports with staff and families as needed.
- Regularly inspect and maintain adequate first aid supplies for all program locations.
Communication Responsibilities:
- Connect with families to secure all necessary medication paperwork and prescriptions required for administration during the program.
- Communicate with the WSCP Summer Program & ESY staff regarding air temperature, humidity, heat index, and hydration guidelines for outdoor activities.
- Notify parents about any medical or health-related incidents occurring during the program.
- Ensure timely and supportive communication with program administrators and staff.
- Follow all required protocols for communication with families and the Department of Health regarding contagious illnesses and infectious diseases.
- Collaborate with school-year nursing professionals when necessary.
Student Care Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site triage and medical care as needed for students and staff.
- Monitor and support students experiencing emotional distress, ensuring appropriate de-escalation techniques are used.
- Be aware of students at risk for elopement (running away) and work with staff to implement safety measures.
- Support and participate in all WSCP Summer Program & ESY field trips as the on-site nurse, ensuring the safety of all students.
Liaison Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary medical contact and resource for WSCP Summer Program & ESY staff, students, and families.
- Share pertinent medical information with the Department of Health, as necessary.
- Work with staff to implement health and safety strategies that align with program needs.
- Ensure students with medical or emotional needs receive the proper support during all activities.
- Perform additional duties as reasonably assigned by the Program Coordinator or Director.
Qualifications:
- RN License valid in Massachusetts (required).
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and EpiPen administration.
- Authorization to provide EpiPen training to staff.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle medical emergencies, emotional distress situations, and student safety concerns.
- Must have U.S. citizenship, residency, or a valid work visa.
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprinting (if applicable).
