What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineer, Scalability Systems position at Waymo?

Perception's system architecture is at the heart of many of our onboard and offboard systems. Our systems power the development of hundreds of engineers. Using these core investments, you would be able to work with our teams to make the technology fast and flexible for our applications. With recent attention on Perception Eval and pivots to meet new requirements for Foundation Models, an execution gap has surfaced to improve Perception distributed systems with a specific focus on Evaluation. You would be invested in improving distributed systems across Perception with specific attention towards evaluation systems.
You will:
- Report into our Head of Perception Scalability
- Pivot among different areas and prioritize projects across Perception, Data Extraction, Evaluation
- Improve latency and correctness and Data Extraction speed
- Build a system to easily find source of truth performance and experiment metrics and build a Launch Eval tool
You have:
- 3 years experience in C , Python , Algorithms, and System Design
- Familiarity with Google Infrastructure: Flume, Spanner, Borg, Guitar
- 3 years of experience in data analysis at a large-scale
- 3 years experience working on a multi-component ML system and building measurable signals to improve it
- Excited about building solutions to complex problems.
We prefer:
- Robotics or physical systems background (deploying software to the cloud is one thing, deploying software to a fleet of vehicles is another thing entirely)
- Love of developing beautiful and elegant code
- Experience developing in Python
- An understanding of ML lifecycle, Model Deployment, and Model Optimization
- 3 years experience building systems with hundreds of users for edge computing

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.
Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
Salary : $158,000 - $200,000
