Application Support Engineer

The Application Support Engineer 1 will report to the Enterprise Applications support team. This team is responsible for managing core application changes, reporting, and releases for the internal technologies driving Wayne County.

We are looking for well qualified candidates that have experience developing, or supporting and managing Enterprise Application Cloud environments, implementations, and migrations. As such, there will be a need to be familiar with Windows and Linux Server, MSSQL and Oracle Relational Databases, Cloud Infrastructure, and SaaS Cloud technologies. Ideally the successful candidate will have a broad understanding and capability of supporting enterprise-based cloud technologies and solutions.

The Enterprise Application support teams are currently in the process of creating momentum around several next generation initiatives to bring our platforms into the cloud and into the future. This role will subsequently have an opportunity to learn about cloud-based architectures, and how to solution cloud-based infrastructures as code.

The position requires a strong blend of technical expertise and problem-solving skills to support our cloud journey and ensure the smooth operation of our enterprise applications.

Required Tasks

• Serve as subject matter expert and architect for all Enterprise Application technologies in use at the county.
• Maintain internal architecture designs and keeps up to date.
• Maintain operational runbooks, knowledgebases, and incident playbooks.
• Assist security and audit teams with compliance remediation and reporting.
• Coordinate and certify application patching activities.
• Work closely with vendors on SaaS based solutions to ensure operational excellence.
• Implement observability and monitoring standards utilizing enterprise monitoring frameworks.
• Work as an application architect and SMEs.
• Develop and maintain architectural designs and patterns for Cloud Infrastructure, on-premises, and hybrid application environments.
• Integrate enterprise application, automation, and implementation for both support and implementation.
• Certify application code changes/updates in conjunction with release activities.
• Work with county divisions to understand their needs and incorporating this into our operating requirements and roadmaps.
• Manage day to day ticketing queue to ensure timely response and resolution to requests and incidents.
• Maintain internal architecture designs and keeps up to date.
• Develop new cloud patterns and POC work.
• Support cloud migration and development of new cloud-based architectures.
• Develop patching and compliance design patterns for all application environments.
• Architect Observability standards and Splunk integrations for all application technologies.
• Assist with contract funding and approval activities.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of cloud-native applications.
• Stay up to date with the latest cloud technologies and best practices.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum three (3) years' experience in SaaS or Cloud based enterprise application solutions.
