WAYNE COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION for
HEALTH DEPARTMENT
GENERAL WORK FUNCTIONS
Provide clerical support to all clinically related visits to the Health Department. The support provided
includes customer service, registration and appointment scheduling, billing for all payor sources, medical
records preparation and administration, and the provision of information as requested by other staff,
government agencies and the general public according to the policy and procedures of the Wayne County
Health Department and the County of Wayne. Works effectively as a member of the department;
maintains the highest standards of professionalism. This position is directly supervised by the Processing
Unit Supervisor. Generally, this position works 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday; however, the work
schedule must be flexible in order to perform the job or in the event of an emergency, must be available
for call in during and throughout a declared emergency, Public Health event /or preparedness exercise as
designated by the Health Director or County Manager.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collect, prepare and process electronic health records (EHR)
Data entry and billing for clinical services departments and/or other areas which include review
of all EHR provider notes for accuracy, completeness and compliance to standards of County and
State regulatory agencies.
May receive and post patient payments.
Serve as back up relief for the Switchboard, Vital Records and Registration
Communicate with clinical staff to correct any deficiencies of provider notes in EHR or on
encounters
Provide statistical reports as needed (e.g. vital records, monthly deliveries)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to take ownership and initiative, and work as a part of a team and independently
Independently and objectively interpret and apply rules and regulations
Thorough knowledge of the equipment used for administrative duties
Significant knowledge and the ability to correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office
terminology
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships between clinical and agency staff

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum:
High School Diploma
2 years of clerical, secretarial, or office experience
Or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Preferred:
Associate Degree in Business
Medical Terminology
Microsoft Office, HIS software, CureMD EHR software

MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines, tools and equipment, such
as a computer, printer, copy machine, fax machine, charge card machine, calculator, or telephone. Tasks require the
ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing
and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at
a keyboard or workstation.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of informational and technical documentation, directions,
instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation,
spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise,
voice control, and confidence using correct English and well-modulated voice.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and
information.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by
means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
