Job Purpose:  The Elementary Art Teacher will guide and inspire students in their artistic development, helping them explore their creativity through various media such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and other visual arts. The teacher will develop a curriculum, teach foundation art techniques, and encourage self-expression in a positive and supportive classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development:
  • Design and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that align with educational standards.
  • Introduce students to various art materials, techniques, and famous artists.
  • Foster creativity and encourage self-expression through individual and group objects.
  1. Instruction and Teaching:
  • Teach basic to intermediate art skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
  • Provide one-on-one and group instruction, supporting students at different skill levels.
  • Demonstrate art techniques, provide critiques, and guide students through art-making process.
  1. Classroom Management:
  • Create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment while implementing Capturing Kids’ Hearts program.
  • Maintain order in the classroom and ensure all students follow safety protocols when using art supplies.
  • Encourage respect for others’ artwork and promote collaboration among students.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and materials.
  1. Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Evaluate students’ artwork and provide constructive feedback on their progress.
  • Track students’ development and maintain accurate records of their achievements.
  • Communicate students’ progress to parents and school administrators.
  1. Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other educators to integrate art into cross-curricular lessons.
  • Participate in school-wide events, art exhibitions, or festivals to showcase students’ artwork.
  1. Professional Development:
  • Stay current with new art teaching methods, materials, and techniques.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and conferences to enhance teaching skills.
  1. Other Duties:
  • Assist with maintaining and organizing classroom materials and art supplies.
  • Promote a love for the arts and encourage lifelong artistic interests in students.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field.
  • Certification: Valid teaching certification in Art Education for the appropriate grade level.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and organizational skills.
    • Patience and creativity to work with young children.
    • Ability to differentiate instructions for diverse learners.

Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: walking, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; rarely lifting items above twenty-five pounds. Physical actions may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending at the waist, and reaching to retrieve teaching materials. The job requires regular walking, talking, and standing and potentially sitting. The job is performed regularly indoors with occasional exposure to seasonal temperatures and natural elements; subject to moderate to loud student, campus and environment noise; subject to frequent interruptions and contact with employees and students; regular use of computer keyboard, mouse and other basic technological devices. This position is not eligible for remote work.

Terms of Employment:  Salary and benefits are to be determined by the board.
