- Have ability to work with a diverse population of students.
- Support students to ensure a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
- Implement specialized instruction to students with emotional and learning disabilities.
- Collaborate with colleagues and assist teacher to meet student learning needs.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders.
- Assist students with daily living skills (dressing, toileting, feeding, etc.), as applicable.
- Assist with maintaining record keeping.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Promote equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments.
Only candidates who hold NYS Teaching Assistant certification or candidates who have passed the NYS Assessment of Teaching Assistant Test (NYSATAS) will be considered. Candidates willing to pursue Teaching Assistant certification may be considered.
Certification is required by the New York State Education Department - "Any person employed, as a teaching assistant, shall hold of one of the following credentials: temporary license, continuing certificate; or a Level I, II, III or Pre-Professional certificate. However, if an individual holds a teaching, pupil personnel, or administrative certificate, he or she need not also obtain a temporary license, continuing certificate, Level I, II, III or Pre-Professional certificate to serve as a teaching assistant, unless required by the employing district."
Job responsibility may require individual to do one and two person lifts and/or physical interventions on a daily basis with students weighing 50-200 pounds. Position requires the successful completion of all elements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. Initial and refresher TCI Trainings are provided by W-FL BOCES.

Pay: $20.30 - $22.42 per hour
