Description

Scope:

Responsible for providing coaching to teaching staff for the purpose of improving early learning environments and early childhood student outcomes.

 

Essential Functions

  • Conduct regular classroom observations and coaching in each center, both informally and formally utilizing program systems and tools.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff and Site Managers in all areas of educational quality, including but not limited to:
  • Monitor implementation and quality of curriculum and assessment.
  • Assist teaching staff in understanding child outcomes data and using it to plan and individualize.
  • Track child outcomes and program quality assessment results, analyze data, and make program development recommendations.
  • Ensure the health and safety of children, families and staff, per agency, federal, state and local policies, including active participation in agency level Safety Committee
  • Ensure no child is left unsupervised at any time.
  • Work  with and demonstrate a commitment, caring, and respect for children and adults regardless of race, gender, age, and cultural or ethnic background
  • A self-starter with the ability to multitask to meet various deadlines and complete tasks.
  • Develop, conduct or arrange training as needed, including professional development days, ongoing training, center- or team-specific training, and additional related training for parents, volunteers, or others.
  • Support implementation of pilots and special initiatives related to curriculum, assessment, teacher training or other.
  • Participate in team and 1-1 meetings, regularly scheduled and as needed, to ensure coordination of education services across agency early childhood programs.
  • Participate in management meetings as requested.
  • Communicate effectively in written or verbal format to groups of all sizes and individuals.
  • Actively participate in the early childhood community, including staff meetings, mandated trainings, committee meetings, and other program-wide functions as needed.
  • Conduct and maintain documentation of monitoring, coaching and training activities
  • Complete data-entry of all coaching sessions and classroom observations in program-related tracking system(s).
  • Maintain CLASS-reliable certification including training and completion of annual certification examination.
  • Maintain confidentiality of enrolled children and families.
  • Assist with providing parents access to instructional information and training. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Assist with the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the program Improvement Plan and School Readiness Goals.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.
  • Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Schools/Professional: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, sit, see, talk and hear, and use hands to manipulate. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The employee is required to supervise students requiring the employee to match walking speed that matches the student and may at times require the ability to run to safeguard students. The employee must occasionally lift (up to 50 pounds), carry, and move students.  Employee must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies. The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school setting.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • CLASS certified or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire
  • PQA certified or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire
  • Experience in an Early Head Start/Head Start/ GSRP classroom and/or working in an early learning environment w/coaching preferred
  • Experience with disabilities services.
  • Ability to analyze and aggregate data.
  • Knowledge of adult learning and reflective coaching best practices
  • Ability to communicate easily and well with children and adults.
  • Job related experience within a specialized field is required.

 

Minimum Competencies:

  • Proficient knowledge of internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues, and all agency staff. Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
  • Ability to work with children and families with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young children and their families.
  • Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with parents/caregivers.
  • Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures, including Head Start Standards of Conduct.
  • Comply with all policies/procedures, State licensing regulations, Head Start Performance standards and GSRP standards.Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.

 

Licensing and Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass State of Michigan Child Care Background Check

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to various sites.

 

Work Hours:  Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
