Produce Assistant

Reports to: Produce Manager, Assistant Manager, and Store Manager

Department: Produce

Position Summary: This position is responsible for stocking and maintaining the produce department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Slices, cuts, weighs, and prices merchandise in a courteous manner and prepares orders to customer satisfaction.
• Unload merchandise and transports stock to storage area.
• Always maintain shelves and keep cases filled.
• Control freshness by dating and rotating all products and remove out-of-date merchandise daily.
• Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities.
• Keep records on the use and/or damage of stock or stock handling equipment.
• Examine and inspect stock items for wear or defects while reporting any damage to supervisors.
• Control department expenses.
• Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses.
• Follow planned program of maintenance on cases, backroom coolers, and refrigeration equipment.
• Ensure favorable department image with customers through a clean, attractive, and friendly department.
• Dispose of damaged or defective items or return them to vendors.
• Receive and count stock items, and record data manually or using computer.
• Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves, in stockrooms, or storage areas.
• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Display a positive attitude.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Report all safety risks or issues and illegal activity including robbery, theft, or fraud.
