Job Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance to ensure a safe working environment and regulatory compliance. They work closely with the management team to create and maintain a safe workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a large maintenance team across multiple shifts to ensure production machinery operates at optimal capacity and facilities are well-maintained.
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs to ensure machinery is in good working condition.
  • Determine work order priorities and schedule repairs, maintenance, and installations to minimize manufacturing disruptions.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel to ensure minimal downtime, costs, and optimize accountability, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Manage department budgets within approved limits, monitor cost-saving opportunities, and recommend standardization methods.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives in conjunction with operating teams.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve maintenance-related issues, install new equipment, and implement process improvements.
  • Establish and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to regulate the maintenance function.
  • Mentor, coach, and train employees to encourage career development and provide consistent feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions fairly and consistently.
  • Follow, promote, and ensure subordinates adhere to safety initiatives to maintain a zero-accident culture.
  • Establish, communicate, and maintain expectations to support safety, company standards, and provide clear direction to employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This is a Leader of People position requiring competencies in Sizing up People, Delegation, Planning, Customer Focus, and Conflict Management.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A combination of five years' education and experience may be substituted for a degree.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum three years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting; five years' experience in the food industry or protein industry preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience managing a large team across multiple shifts.
  • Knowledge of food processing systems, SPC, and CAD.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements governing the food industry and understanding of utility functions such as refrigeration/freezing systems, boilers, HVAC, PLC controls, etc.
  • Strong customer focus with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high energy and a strong sense of urgency.

Safety Requirements

  • Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
  • Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to traverse throughout facilities, up and down stairs as needed, both indoors and out.
  • Frequently subjected to various environmental conditions (extreme wet and cold or hot and humid).
  • Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
