TITLE : F-102 - Plumber

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

1. Possession of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).

2. Five years experience as a skilled plumber, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position

3. Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver's license and a satisfactory driving record annually

4. Required criminal background check.

5. Plumber's License required.

6. Black Seal License required within one year of employment.

REPORTS TO : Maintenance Supervisor, Director of Facilities Management or designee.

JOB GOAL : Under limited supervision, performs skilled plumbing work in the area of minor construction, alteration, repair and installation of plumbing and heating systems to include sanitary and storm systems, domestic hot and cold water systems and heating systems throughout the district. Maintains buildings, structures, fixtures and commercial grade plumbing systems in a safe and operable condition.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Plans, schedules, coordinates and completes plumbing work orders, projects and assignments to include minor construction, alteration, repair and installation of plumbing and heating systems to include sanitary and storm systems, domestic hot and cold water systems and heating systems throughout the district, using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blue prints and work orders.

2. Selects appropriate material and hardware and makes time and material estimates.

3. Repair and replace parts and components for plumbing and heating systems to include piping, valves and controls for water, air, steam, gas, sewage, and storm lines; sinks, faucets, toilets, drinking fountains, water heaters, eye wash stations, backflow preventers, steam traps, storage tanks, pumps; repair and calibrate thermostats and control valves for pneumatic and electrical temperature controls.

4. Reads blueprints, sketches or building plans; selects and orders types of plumbing supplies and materials; prepares layouts; diagrams, sketches as needed.

5. Monitors the status of all assigned plumbing work order requests submitted to Building Services for plumbing support or services. Notifies the Maintenance Supervisor(s) of any plumbing issues or problems which cannot be successfully completed.

6. Communicates and coordinates with supervisors, administrators, staff and other maintenance employees to schedule and accomplish routine, emergency and priority requests for electrical support or services.

7. Observes safety and security procedures; reports any unsafe conditions in work area to supervisor immediately; performs all work in accordance with local, state and federal building codes and compliance; performs preventative maintenance on tools and equipment; uses ladders, scaffolds and personnel lifts.

8. Maintains accurate records on work orders, supplies, materials and labor used to complete assignments.

9. Respond to emergency calls as needed. Assists other maintenance trade areas as needed or directed by supervisors or administrators.

10. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure all work areas are clean; remove all scraps, materials and debris as needed.

OTHER DUTIES :

Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Director of Facilities, or designee, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education. This position is part of the Wayne Custodial-Maintenance Association.

ANNUAL EVALUATION :

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on the evaluation of non-certificated staff.

5. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
