Summary:
The Materials Handler is responsible for receiving, handling, storing, and shipping materials to production departments and customers, including sister plants. The role involves inventory control, material inspection, and labeling, requiring attention to detail and use of analytical skills. Forklift operation is essential, and the Materials Handler will collaborate closely with Production, Purchasing, Quality Control (QC), and occasionally Suppliers and Logistics teams. This position is vital to maintaining material flow and organization at the Kalkaska plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following, but other duties may be assigned as needed:
- Material Handling & Shipping:
- Ship materials to customers and sister companies.
- Issue and deliver materials to production departments.
- Move materials between departments or store them in designated locations.
- Receiving & Inspection:
- Receive materials at the dock and inspect raw
- Measure and inspect materials using tools such as microscopes, micrometers, calipers, indicators, and go/no-go gauges to ensure compliance with standards.
- Compare and verify information for consistency and accuracy.
- Inventory Control:
- Assist with cycle counting and help maintain proper inventory levels.
- Process completed work-in-process (WIP) items and returned materials into inventory.
- Forklift Operation:
- Operate forklifts to move materials within the plant (Fork truck license required; training provided).
- Labeling & Documentation:
- Create and maintain appropriate labels for materials to ensure accurate storage and shipping.
- Quality & Attention to Detail:
- Ensure materials meet production and quality standards.
- Notify supervisors of any issues or discrepancies in materials.
- Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the Materials, Production, Purchasing, and QC teams to ensure smooth material flow.
- Communicate with suppliers and logistics as needed.
- Work Conditions:
- Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
- Must have a strong work ethic, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and good attendance.
Training & Expectations:
- Internal candidates are expected to perform all duties within 90 days of training.
Additional Requirements:
- Forklift license is required (training provided).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as required by job duties.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a team-oriented approach.
