What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time EMT Instructor position at Waynesboro High School?
The part-time EMT Instructor will teach one block at Waynesboro High School. The EMT Program is a partnership between Waynesboro High School and Blue Ridge Community College in which students earn dual enrollment credit from both organizations. The position will include teaching in a traditional classroom/laboratory setting with a focus on strong pedagogical approach and assessment of student learning. The primary emphasis shall be on leading instruction and developing relevant activities to help the students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity. This position will function as the lead instructor including lecture, labs, CPR, and clinical coordination of these students. This position is the equivalent commitment of one block a day for the entirety of the school year. Flexibility of scheduling within the block schedule could be accommodated within reason but is currently slated for the first block, 8:30-9:50 am at Waynesboro High School.
Pay: $40 an hour
Required Qualifications
- Currently certified by the National Registry of EMT’s at the Paramedic level and possess or be eligible for Paramedic certification in Virginia (to be obtained in a short time frame).
- Associate degree in Emergency Medical Services field or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Valid certification to Virginia teaching licensure requirements with specific endorsement in EMT.
- Two years of relevant and recent full-time occupational experience.
- A commitment and enthusiasm for the community college mission and environment.
- Can demonstrate a passion for the discipline of Emergency Medical Services
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills appropriate for students, colleagues, staff, and administrator interactions as an individual or as a part of a team.
- Willingness to adopt an organized plan of instruction and use methods to fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes.
- No citations, suspensions or revocations issued by the Office of Emergency Medical Services of Virginia or National Registry (Past 5 years)
Additional Considerations
- Community college, university, or high school teaching experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge concerning current national curricula, national accreditation, national registration, and the requirements for state certification or licensure is preferred
- Current ability to practice as a released paramedic in a local jurisdiction (or willingness to become a practicing provider in the area)
- Current certification as a Virginia EMS Education Coordinator.
- Previous instructional experience in a Virginia or nationally accredited EMS education program
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) with the ability to use technology to enhance teaching and educational experience.
- Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
- Additional instructor certifications such as AHA CPR instructor
