ABOUT WAYSIDE SCHOOLS: Wayside Schools is an open-enrollment, tuition-free Pre-K3-12th grade public charter school network that provides over 1,900 scholars across its five South Austin schools. The elementary assistant principal will be responsible for ensuring that every scholar achieves the academic skills, intellectual habits and character traits necessary to be successful lifelong learners and global citizens. The assistant principal will work collaboratively with the campus principal to accomplish this objective by promoting a collaborative campus culture, setting and maintaining high expectations, supporting the development of instructional staff and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree (required)
- Master's Degree in an Education related field (preferred)
- Administrative Certification (preferred)
- Bilingual (preferred)
Satisfactory outcome of fingerprint/ background check
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a low income school
- A minimum of 2 years of experience serving in campus leadership role such as coach, mentor teacher, team leader or curriculum support
- An understanding of the specific, unique characteristics of public charter schools, Texas-specific knowledge a plus
- A proven track record of success managing school leaders to achieve ambitious goals; previous experience supporting the full array of responsibilities and challenges faced by school principals preferred but not required
- Outstanding leadership and management skills, particularly as it relates to building teams, working through others, promoting collaboration, managing conflict, goal setting, and holding people accountable
- An entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated success in building a program, department or organization
- The flexibility needed to accommodate the breadth and depth of responsibilities and priorities
- Outstanding written, speaking, and organizational skills including excellence in backwards planning long-term goals, accountability and progress monitoring systems
- Ability to interact with a broad range of stakeholders with different interests and needs
- Deep commitment to improving the lives of scholars from low-income communities
- Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of Wayside Schools

High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Google suite
Performance Responsibilities:
- Maintain and promote high expectations for staff and scholars
- Maintain campus order and safety through well-established systems, routines and protocols
- Use impact and influence to align staff to campus mission and goals
- Management of staff that includes goal setting, regular cycles of feedback, emphasis on self-awareness, promotion of continued development, retention of high performing staff members and targeted work with staff not meeting expectations
- Promote a scholar focused, collaborative and achievement oriented campus culture
- Support the academic, behavioral and emotional needs of all scholars
- Address challenges proactively and creatively
- Implement feedback to promote ongoing personal and professional growth
- Maintain a high level of self-awareness
- Develop strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders including staff, scholars and parents
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks on daily basis while remaining focused on long-term goals
- Use data to inform both long and short term goals
- Demonstrate a high level of resourcefulness and thoughtful decision making when faced with challenges and ambiguity
- Serve as an instructional leader promoting ongoing staff development through coaching and feedback
- Promote innovative and data driven instruction at all grades levels
- Maintain campus communication through both verbal and written systems
- Evaluate staff to ensure that opportunities are provided for ongoing professional growth ensuring that all scholars are provided an exceptional learning experience
- Manage a variety of campus systems and responsibilities such as testing coordination, 504 support, LPAC, TELPAS management and management of instructional resources
- Manage campus resources and textbooks
- Support scholar recruitment efforts at district and campus level
- Maintain confidentiality
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., however, from time to time may work an extended schedule, including weekends and evenings according to demands of the role and tasks.
