Job Goal:
This employee is responsible for working with students in a secondary school setting. He or she will play a supporting role for content-area teachers in helping scholars learn academic content.
Qualifications/Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, and/or Paraprofessional Certificate
- Proficiency in Spanish (preferred)
Skill Requirements:
- Ability to work with individuals and small groups of scholars.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all employees.
- Ability to prepare and maintain required program records.
- Ability to assist supervising instructional staff in the preparation and/or organization of materials.
- Meet all State and Federal requirements for the position, regarding staff qualifications.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assisting teachers in preparing instructional materials to be used in the classroom.
- Working with assigned scholars under the teacher's direction.
- Establishing and maintaining high standards of scholar behavior consistent with district and school policies.
- Attending school-wide assemblies or special programs, as needed.
- Performing other duties as assigned
Physical Effort and Work Environment:
- Some movement throughout the classroom is generally necessary to facilitate learning (e.g., standing, walking, stooping, bending, sitting, and/or kneeling).
- Light lifting of materials and other objects associated with a classroom environment is required (e.g., books, teaching aids, up to approximately 20 – 40 lbs.).
- Field trips may be made.
- Candidate should be willing to contribute directly or indirectly to the development of children both inside and outside the classroom, which may include working hours in addition to the regular school day.
- This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Regular attendance is required for this position.
