Overview of the Clinical Care Navigator, Medical Assistant role
The Clinical Care Navigator Medical Assistant’s primary responsibility is to facilitate the optimal delivery of care for members enrolled in the Wayspring Clinic. This role will be an essential aspect of the program, serving as the primary clinical support relative to members’ recovery plan. The Clinical Care Navigator, Medical Assistant will be responsible for establishing, executing, and monitoring members’ care plans, in collaboration with providers, members, and Wayspring’s Engagement Specialists.
Our ideal candidate would have experience in behavioral health, preferably in the field of substance use disorders, interacting directly with patients and providers. Strong organizational and communication skills are a must, as well as the ability to quickly identify problems and act to minimize the likelihood of adverse clinical outcomes.
Responsibilities of the Clinical Care Navigator, Medical Assistant
- Field inbound calls, schedule appointments as requested
- Intake completion for new patient appointments
- Room patients being seen in clinic
- Complete chart prep
- Lead daily Clinic Huddles
- Complete Point of Care Testing, i.e. urine drug screen
- Manage the clinical inbox
- Provide support to providers during clinic visits, as needed
- Act as a clinical resource specific to members’ unique issues and treatment plans to Wayspring’s internal teams
Requirements & Preferred Qualifications
- Certified as a Medical Assistant from the American Academy of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologist Organization, or current registration with the American Registry of Medical Assistants or approved eligibility.
- CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain it prior to the start of employment; maintain and provide proof of current certification(s)
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working within a provider clinic, assisting both front and back office. Experience in settings that include primary care, substance use disorder, and care management preferred
- A high degree of professionalism and customer service in both written and verbal communication
- The ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with databases and with Microsoft Office applications and a EHR system, experience in Athena is preferred
- Ability to function in an interdisciplinary setting
- Thrive in a fast-paced work environment, and embraces change
- The belief that the status quo can be improved upon, and an innate desire for process improvement, problem-solving, and results
Preferred Qualifications
- An appetite for learning and self-improvement
- Start-up, healthcare services, healthcare IT, and/or entrepreneur skills are preferred
