2nd Shift Production Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE:

Perform functions to lead, manage, coordinate, and oversee the day-to-day production and quality standards on assigned shift to maximize production efficiency and labor utilization while maintaining a safe work environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot problems; develop, recommend, and initiate action steps that provide resolution to achieve positive results.
  • Prepare the work center to run according to schedule and ensure production goals and standards are met. Upload programs into routers, learn and understand the workings of the machines, and utilize computers and tablets in their area.
  • Move material within or to/from workstations to meet operational needs.
  • Follow proper processes for performing inspections, ensuring accuracy, and allowing for continuous monitoring for defects. If defects are found, the product must be sent to be reworked.
  • Work with area leads to ensure sufficient product flow. Communicate as necessary with maintenance using the provided equipment.
  • Support operational functions to ensure continuous production at each work center and meet operational needs.
  • Facilitate preventative maintenance checks on machine(s). Properly document checks via tablets provided by following On-the-Job (OTJ) training documents.
  • Complete and submit shift summary reports daily to the production management team.
  • Respond to quality concerns providing direction and solutions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout scheduled shift as well as perform cleaning duties at designated times to contribute to a safe environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and needed.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the full cycle of employment including participating in talent acquisition process and providing unbiased feedback focused on candidate qualifications through to end of employment activities, consistently considering alignment with the company mission, vision, and values.
  • Provide an onboarding experience that allows employees to learn, develop, and acclimate to the company culture.
  • Utilize results against goals to identify continuous improvement opportunities and communicate those to all departments.
  • Plan, establish, and communicate work schedules, assignments, and expectations to employees.
  • Listen to and address employees’ concerns to resolve issues and lead a culture of respect, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Continuously evaluate, document, and provide feedback to employees through coaching, counseling, motivating, disciplining, and conducting formal annual performance reviews.
  • Monitor and process employee attendance records/timecards and PTO in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership to all department activities focused on maximizing teamwork and productivity, minimizing costs, and maintaining a high level of quality standards.
  • Drive employee safety programs and conduct training and inspections as needed. Reinforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safety-focused culture.
  • Implement cross-training program to create a flexible workforce allowing coverage for all key functions.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of process control improvements within the departments for cost savings and employee efficiencies.

Shift Specific Responsibilities

  • Night supervisors are required to remain in the facility until all employees have left, locking the facility.
  • Day supervisors are required to unlock the facility for the start of the day shift.
  • Weekend supervisors are required to both unlock the facility in the morning and lock the facility at the end of the shift.

  • Managing Performance : Take responsibility for one’s own or one’s employee’s performance, by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly.
  • Judgement and Decision Making: Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate action.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience And/or Training:

  • 1 year of experience in a supervisory role, which includes experience in quality control and analysis.
  • 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Licenses/Certificates: None

Technology/Equipment: Proficiency working in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP manufacturing software .

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate degree or equivalent experience.

Experience And/or Training:

  • 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing manufacturing principles.
  • Formal leadership skills training.
  • 6 months of timecard administration experience.
  • Familiarity with business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles

Physical And Mental Demands:

Standing for the working hours of each shift, 10 hours daily. Walking in the Production department to different areas of work. Speaking, hearing, seeing. Listen and observe the environment for hazard prevention. Use hands for tools. Regularly lift 30-50 lbs. throughout shift. Team-lift as specified by leadership. Employees may perform tasks that require bending, twisting, and turning frequently.

Working Environment:

Indoor working environment, hot in Summer, temperature controlled in Winter. Moving machinery, i.e. forklifts, moveable carts, etc. Uneven ground where cart tracks are identified. Air quality may be dusty and potentially require additional PPE in certain areas. Sound level below 85 decibels except in areas specified as requiring hearing protection.
