Position Summary
The Molecular Technologist I is responsible for pre-analytical and analytical processes associated with specimen processing and test performance in Weill Cornell Medicine molecular and genomic laboratory. This role is responsible for performing selected procedures in the wet lab associated with molecular and genomic methods, including but not limited to sample preparation, library prep, sequencing, nucleotide extraction, quality control, Sanger and, RTPCR.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs molecular analysis of Blood, Bone Marrow, and Solid Tissue specimens.
- Ensures proper use of all protocols for specimen handling including accessioning, blood processing, DNA / RNA extractions, Gel Electrophoresis, Sanger and other PCR methods.
- Assists the lab director and Assay Development Specialist by carrying out test validations and writes project plan.
- Assures the accuracy and precision of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory’s Quality Control Standard Operating Procedures.
- Keeps track of molecular test development projects and updates others on status.
- Enters technical and QC data into laboratory information system.
- Stocks supplies and cleans laboratory and prepares laboratory for next day’s processing requirements.
- Assists in developing new protocols for new clinical test assays and creates training material for new employees.
Education
Experience
Bachelor's in clinical laboratory technology or a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences.
1-3 years of work experience, preferably in a molecular or genomics laboratory or completion of an accredited Molecular Laboratory Science Program.
