Summary
As a Maintenance Manager at Bernert Navigation, you will oversee the maintenance operations of our maritime equipment. This role is essential in ensuring operational efficiency and safety, directly contributing to our mission of delivering high-quality services to our community.
Essential Functions
- Vessel Maintenance: Supervise and conduct repairs and preventative maintenance on both vessels and marine facilities that are beyond the capabilities of crew members. Repairs may require drydocking, steelwork and the use of heavy equipment. Oversee managing all aspects of the maintenance program including performing the work, assigning the work and maintaining up to date status on all maintenance items. Use of the maintenance management system HELM.
- Troubleshooting: Work with vessel crew to troubleshoot root causes of operational or safety deficiencies and identify solutions. Effective troubleshooting includes identifying when outside expertise is required.
- Vendor Management: Work with vendors to identify the lowest cost solutions to implement repairs. Compare prices between multiple vendors to achieve the lowest possible prices.
- Procedural Compliance: Follow company safety, communication and compliance procedures. Procedures include, but are not limited to, confined space procedures, lock-out/tag-out, fall protection, crane safety procedures and financial control processes among others.
- Leadership: Leads the maintenance management team, directs workflow, conducts performance reviews of maintenance techs and works with the Marine Operations Manager for hiring and removal of employees.
- Supplemental Duties: Assist with shoreside repairs and marine construction or dredging activities as requested.
- Communication: Communicate effectively and professionally with both internal and external stakeholders including external vendors and Bernert Navigation maintenance supervisors for assistance when needed.
- Attendance: Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
Qualifications
- Previous maritime experience
- Extensive mechanical experience with a special focus on marine propulsion systems.
- Possession of professional accreditation such as NCCO card, OSHA 30, etc. is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a USCG regulated environment.
- Demonstrated competence working in a team environment
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Job Conditions & Physical Demand:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work over 40 hours per week, especially during peak times.
- Ability to work any day of the week and be available for callouts any time of day
- Ability to work in confined places
- Ability to lift and/or push 50 lbs. frequently
- Must be able to hear and communicate with others including radio and phone use
- Must be able to view, read and complete paperwork using a computer
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, and kneel frequently
- Physically able to climb vessel and shore facilities through use of ladders and gangways
