Leader in Training (LIT) – Summer Program
Role Overview
The Leader in Training position is a hands-on learning opportunity for individuals looking to develop leadership skills while supporting the Pegasus Summer Program. LITs assist Group Leaders, Instructors, and Program Coordinators in delivering engaging, age-appropriate activities while fostering a positive and inclusive program environment.
This role is designed to provide mentorship, skill-building, and real-world experience for those interested in working with children and youth in an educational or recreational setting.
General Responsibilities
Program Support & Leadership Development
- Provide support for program activities, ensuring students are engaged and following program guidelines.
- Assist in age-appropriate activity delivery as directed by the Program Coordinator, Instructors, or Group Leader.
- Act as a peer leader, helping with activity planning and execution under supervision.
- Develop leadership skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, and collaboration with senior staff.
- Focus on learning program procedures and assisting in activities under close supervision.
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with students, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
Student Engagement
- Help ensure all students are engaged and supported in programming, contributing to inclusive practices.
- Assist students during transitions between activities, helping with group management.
- Provide additional one-on-one or small-group support to students who need it.
Professional Development & Collaboration
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and training throughout the summer.
- Work closely with the Program Coordinator and Instructors to support program success.
- Take initiative in problem-solving and teamwork while receiving guidance from senior staff.
- Support program setup, cleanup, and materials organization.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties as reasonably assigned by the Program Coordinator or Director.
Qualifications
- High School student or recent graduate (ages 16 ).
- Interest in education, child development, or recreational leadership.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability skills.
- Enthusiasm for working with children and creating a fun, inclusive environment.
- Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
Compensation
- $19.52 – $20.05 per hour, based on experience.
Additional Requirements
- Must have U.S. citizenship, residency, or a valid work visa.
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprinting (if applicable).
