WDP’s Manassas, Virginia office is seeking to fill a full-time position of Construction Materials Laboratory Manager. The successful candidate will provide construction materials testing services and management of operations within WDP’s accredited in-house laboratory. The position requires previous soils and concrete/masonry laboratory experience, WACEL certification in Soils and Concrete Laboratory or equivalent laboratory certification and is best suited for candidates with three or more years of relevant experience in the field of construction materials and testing. The Laboratory Manager maintains a safe, clean, and organized laboratory work environment, providing services with accuracy, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness. The Laboratory Manager will provide support to the Division Manager as well as geotechnical engineering and construction inspection and materials testing personnel. Expected responsibilities include:
- WACEL certification in Soils and Concrete Laboratory or equivalent laboratory certification
- Ensuring daily quality control by verifying all samples are logged in and labeled properly.
- Laboratory testing of materials, including soils and aggregates, concrete, grout, mortar, fire-resistive materials, and asphalt.
- Completing daily technical reports and lab results for review by the Project Engineer/Project Manager
- Reading and interpreting engineering and related technical manuals, standards, plans, and reports.
- Updating and maintaining calibration records, coordination of both in-house equipment calibrations, and calibrations done by outside calibration firms
- As needed, assisting with field inspection, materials testing, and drilling observation work.
- Serve as a primary point of contact during AASHTO/WACEL lab audits and inspections and ensure continued compliance with accreditation requirements.
- Training new employees in proper laboratory testing procedures.

- At least three years of relevant experience in laboratory materials testing.
- Demonstrating a motivating leadership style and mentoring ability in a team environment with very strong interpersonal and relationship skills
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks/projects independently, tracking laboratory workload, and working with several field technicians to assist with laboratory work when they are available.
- Ability to occasionally work in the field and travel depending on job assignment and workload
