What are the responsibilities and job description for the Architectural Project Manager position at WDS Architecture PLLC?
Job Description
We are a Commercial Architecture Firm seeking a very special member to join our Design-Build Team! We Design, Permit & Construct Commercial Building Projects that mostly involve Tenant Improvements with a few occasional Ground ups. The types include Retail, Office, Medical, Restaurant, Warehouse, Industrial, School, and Beauty & Wellness.
Generally speaking, you will be responsible for capturing our Clients vision on paper in 2d and 3d so they (and we) can understand it. At the same time you will be required to provide existing conditions, quantity and quality data, and outline specs to our pre-construction team so they can perform cost estimating and feasibility exercises.
More specifically, you will be responsible for drafting the space plans, performing code analysis, creating the construction documents, and taking T.I. projects through the building permitting process. You will also be required to perform zoning ordinance analysis, site planning, exterior design and entitlement process for ground-up projects. You must be experienced enough to not require hand holding after 90 days, and be comfortable as an independent self-starter thereafter. Creating and meeting a schedule will be crucial to this role and set the tone for each project's potential to be built as it makes its way through our process. As a true Design-Builder, we have two entities under roof and our Founder holds licenses in both architecture and construction. As a result, our model involves touching approximately 10-12 projects at any given time, with a handful of them being in a feasibility or conceptual stage, several others in design or permitting, and the remaining few under construction.
As for specific software, tasks and skills, we use company issued PC laptops and iPhones with a Google Suite environment allowing us to collaborate. Architecturally, we have utilized subscription-based Revit to present the spatial and material aspects of the project in 3d and simultaneously or in transition pivot to subscription based Auto-cad for Pre-Construction exhibits and Construction Documents. Excel, Word, Google Docs and Google Sheets are our main daily go-to software preferences. We access our projects on Google drive or Internet Explorer. We also have an internal website or intranet that houses our digital procedural manual and office standards.
Your role will require traveling to project locations in Metro Phoenix area. It will be challenging to understand the site and its conditions without visiting it and spending time there. Additional visits will be required as the project goes forward, and then periods of time on site during construction are typically critical to its success. Remote-work can carry many meanings. This position will be described more as "flexible" meaning that you will need to be comfortable with and open to working at any given location each day.
We have been registered in AZ for two decades, while operating at different sizes and capacities with different visions and missions. During that time we have become highly sought after and been fortunate enough to have arrived at our true purpose and calling. During the past 5 years however, that long evolution ultimately resulted in something special. It shaped us into the unique company we are today. We are a very small and efficient, intentional and mission driven company who mostly acts as a client funnel and operates as a support to our construction endeavors. We are comfortable operating in the plus or minus five person team and are extremely interactive within one another and our Clients. The Client Experience and Level of Customer Service we provide are paramount. Aligning with the Owner on their project vision and expectations, as well as conveying that to our entire consultant and trade team for buy-in, is the key to our succeeding on any given endeavor.

You will have a large amount of flexibility in terms of governing yourself, while at the same time the sky is the limit in terms of the Owner assisting you in growing your career and life goals. In turn, this is a roll-up your sleeves and get it done environment, with not much time for hand-holding, spinning wheels or faking it.
