JOB DESCRIPTION: Café & Resource Manager

Role Summary: The Café & Resource Manager ensures the Café community is one that embraces, promotes, and maintains a stance of radical hospitality in the context of loving accountability. This person is dedicated to providing a safe and secure space for individuals to be known, heard, and supported while developing the tools necessary for sustainable recovery. This person provides direct service to Members by helping them identify their needs and connecting them with available resources including, but not limited to, housing, employment, healthcare, mental health support, and other social services. They have a deep understanding of the Café’s vision and works to nurture and maintain our guiding principles. The Café & Resource Manager is responsible for assisting the Senior Café Manager with the café operations, supporting members through peer recovery support programming at Recovery Café Indy, and assisting community volunteers and staff during the hours when on duty.


Days and hours of operation: The Café is currently open on Wednesday-Friday from 12pm-6pm and Saturday from 9am-1pm; the schedule of work is as follows. This person will work approximately 40 hours per week on a regular basis.

  • Tuesday: 10:00AM-6:00PM
  • Wednesday: 9:45AM – 6:30PM
  • Thursday: 9:45AM – 6:30PM
  • Friday: 9:45AM – 6:30PM
  • Saturday: 8:15AM – 1:15PM


The Café & Resource Manager roles and responsibilities are included, but are not limited to, the following:


· Lead & Manage Resource Navigation for RCI Members (75%):

  • Run & Operate RCI’s Member Financial Assistance (MFA) Program
  •  Educate and promote the MFA Program to RCI members through announcements, flyers & leading regular orientation sessions
  • Facilitate monthly training sessions required for MFA program participants (5-mo program)
  • Hold regular 1-1 meetings with MFA program participants
  • Support the creation of budget template & recovery plan by MFA program participants
  • Ensure all documentation requirements are met on a daily & weekly basis ensuring AGENCY and Tracker records are consistently updated
  • Develop, maintain, and expand RCI’s network of resources and relationships with other community agencies
  • Document referral processes with community partners and align MOU’s where relevant
  • Optimize and expand the resource library & ensure in-house resource information up to date
  • Provide in-depth resource navigation support to all RCI members as possible


· Oversight of Café Space 

  •  Collaborate and oversee Floor Lead(s) (Member Leader/Community Volunteer Floor Lead)
  • Provide focused peer support and serve as primary resource connector
  •  Monitor Member and guest behaviors to ensure the Café is creating a safe space for all
  • Ensure guiding principles are being upheld by all in the Café space
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating daily Café activities


· Provide Peer Support through Program Delivery

  • Facilitate Recovery Circles (1-2/week – Recovery Café as primary; Discovery Café, & satellite locations)
  • Encourage and promote Member participation in School for Recovery curriculum
  • Assist Members with identifying, creating and implementing a person-centered recovery plan
  • Provide 1:1 Peer Recovery Coaching Support


· Actively Engage with the Recovery Café Team Structures

  • Attend Weekly 1:1 Supervision with Senior Café Manager
  • Attend Weekly Staff Meeting/Recovery Circles
  • Attend Weekly Recovery Café consults
  • Participate in required staff trainings


· Support Team-wide Effort to Sustain a Safe, Clean, Welcoming Environment.

  • Embrace and promote the Cafés environment of radical hospitality
  • Communicate and enforce Café guidelines, guiding principles and boundaries with loving accountability
  • Guide Members and volunteers in ensuring the Café remains clean and beautiful: clean-up of the meal service counters and tables, trash/recycling removal, vacuuming, bathroom stocking and maintenance, sweeping front sidewalk, the parking lot and the area around the Cafe. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have strong interpersonal, communications, data management and organizational skills
  • Ability to consistently serve as a motivator, conflict resolver, and “de-escalator” for Members
  • Ability to work amicably on a diverse staff team with flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm
  • Proficient computer skills to enter data accurately, run and compile data reports using various data management systems and communicate effectively with staff and other agencies using email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook calendaring
  • Personal understanding of the recovery journey (not necessarily in recovery from substance use)
  • Ability to embody principles of recovery in daily interactions
  • Strong desire to support individuals who are on the recovery journey
  • If the candidate has a history of substance use and/or mental health challenges, they must have at least one year of continuous recovery and actively engage in personal ongoing recovery supports
  • The capacity to be loving and to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with Café members & guests which will require emotional intelligence and a strong ability to self-regulate
  • Food Handler Certification (for food handling, preparation, storage, etc.) or ability to attain within 14 days.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.


Minimum Education, Work, and Skill Requirements:

  • Education: Minimum of High School degree (or equivalent); preference for Associates or Bachelor’s degree; years of experience in human service may be substituted
  • Work Experience: 1-2 years' work experience utilizing skills relevant to this position.
  • Successful completion of Certified Peer Support Specialist (6-day) or Certified Peer Recovery Coach (7-day) training curriculum (certification preferred)
