Purpose:
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily transportation and trucking operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely pickup and delivery of logs and lumber while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as a thorough understanding of the transportation industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Oversee Daily Operations:
o Plan and coordinate daily pickup and delivery routes and schedules.
o Monitor driver locations and progress in real-time using GPS tracking systems.
o Dispatch drivers and assign loads effectively.
o Address any operational issues that may arise during the day, such as traffic delays, equipment malfunctions, or customer service concerns.
· Driver Management:
o Recruit, hire, and train new drivers.
o Conduct driver performance reviews and provide feedback.
o Address driver safety concerns and ensure compliance with all DOT regulations (Hours of Service, etc.).
o Monitor driver logs and ensures accurate record-keeping.
o Investigate and address any accidents or incidents involving company vehicles.
· Safety & Compliance:
o Conduct regular safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
o Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company policies.
o Develop and implement safety training programs for drivers.
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date driver records and files.
· Equipment Maintenance:
o Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs.
o Work with maintenance personnel to ensure timely and effective equipment repair.
o Monitor vehicle fuel consumption and identify areas for improvement.
· Other Duties as Assigned:
o Participate in company meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
o Assist with the development and implementation of new transportation strategies.
o Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, or a related field preferred.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in the transportation industry, with a strong understanding of logistics and transportation operations.
· Proven experience in driver management and supervision.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and transportation management software (TMS).
· Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
· Class A CDL - Preferred
· DOT certification (if applicable).
Physical Demands:
· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
· Ability to lift and carry moderate weights.
· Ability to work outside occasionally
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Work Environment:
· Office and warehouse environment.
· Some travel may be required.
Compensation: Commensurate with Experience
