Position Description
Job Description:
The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing on-site technical support, maintenance and repairs of heavy machinery and equipment. This role requires a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and involves frequent travel to construction sites in central Arkansas. This position reports directly to the shop manager and assists field management with tasks as assigned.
This position is one in which a momentary lapse of attention may result in grave and immediate danger to themselves and others; therefore, this position is classified as safety sensitive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of heavy machinery, such as excavators, dozers, graders, and loaders, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
- On-Site Support: Travel to construction sites to provide on-site technical assistance, diagnose equipment issues, and promptly resolve problems to minimize delays in project timelines.
- Preventive Maintenance: Proactively identify potential equipment issues, ensure compliance with safety standards, and maximize the lifespan of machinery.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and service reports. Document parts usage, inventory levels, and equipment condition for proper inventory management and cost control.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with company and industry safety guidelines.
- Training and Support: Assist in training and offering guidance to equipment operators on proper usage, maintenance, and safety procedures to enhance their skill levels and ensure safe equipment operation.
- Inventory Management: Assist in managing spare parts inventory, ordering necessary components, and coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely availability of required parts.
- Communication and Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with the shop manager, project managers, superintendents, and other team members to coordinate work schedules, prioritize tasks, and address any equipment-related issues.
Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- 5 years’ experience as a field service technician or similar role.
- Proficient knowledge of heavy machinery, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diesel engines.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Demonstrates commitment to workplace safety and knowledge of safety regulations applicable to heavy machinery.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment parts, working in all weather conditions, and climbing on and off machinery.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, equipment operators, and suppliers effectively.
- Meticulousness in documenting maintenance activities, keeping accurate records, and following repair procedures.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and occasional overnight stays, to meet project demands and respond to emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with a clean driving record
- Technical certifications or trade school degree in heavy equipment maintenance, diesel mechanics, or a related field.
- Previous experience as a field service technician or similar role in the heavy civil construction industry is strongly preferred.
- Experience with construction equipment brands such as Caterpillar, Link Belt, and Gomaco is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience working in a shop with heavy equipment and vehicles, preferably in Heavy-Highway industry.
- Prior responsibility on large multi-million-dollar projects.
