Job Summary:
The Purchasing Agent at Weaver Fab and Finishing is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing materials and components needed for sheet metal fabrication based on customer drawings. The role requires working with suppliers to ensure timely, cost-effective acquisition of high-quality materials, meeting the exact specifications needed for custom fabrication. The Purchasing Agent will also collaborate with production, engineering, and quality control teams to ensure that materials meet the required standards and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Sourcing & Procurement: Source high-quality sheet metal, hardware, fasteners, coatings, and other components required for custom fabrication projects based on customer drawings and specifications.
- Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with a network of suppliers for sheet metal and other specialized components. Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to ensure project needs are met.
- Purchase Order Management: Generate and manage purchase orders based on production schedules, ensuring that materials are available when needed for uninterrupted production. Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
- Cost Control & Budgeting: Monitor material costs and work to negotiate favorable prices while maintaining the quality standards required for custom fabrication work.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all purchased materials comply with the specific standards required for sheet metal fabrication and customer specifications. Work closely with the quality control team to resolve any material quality issues.
- Production Coordination: Collaborate with the production and engineering teams to understand project requirements and ensure timely availability of materials. Track material usage and adjust purchasing strategies to align with project timelines.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory of raw materials, ensuring the right stock levels are maintained to avoid production delays. Work to reduce excess stock while ensuring no shortages in critical materials.
- Logistics and Delivery Coordination: Coordinate delivery schedules with suppliers and transportation to ensure materials arrive on time and are staged properly for the fabrication process.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, supplier contracts, and inventory. Prepare reports as needed on procurement activities, cost analysis, and material usage.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- 3-5 years of purchasing experience, preferably within the manufacturing industry with a focus on custom fabrication, metalworking, or similar fields.
- Strong knowledge of materials used in sheet metal fabrication, such as steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys.
- Proficiency in procurement software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Understanding of production processes and how material choices affect fabrication timelines and costs.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based with occasional visits to production facilities and supplier locations.
- Collaboration with production, quality control, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour
