Description
PURPOSE
To oversee and coordinate the procurement, merchandising, and sales of cheese and deli products, manage all deli operations, and supervise the staff responsible for the sandwich station.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Staff Supervision
Assess departmental staffing needs and interview and hire departmental staff
Orient and train new departmental staff in standard practices and procedures, sanitation, product information, and customer service
Supervise departmental staff, including
Scheduling
Covering departmental shifts when staff are absent
Setting daily and long-range priority of tasks and projects and informing staff
Overseeing staff for outcome
Evaluating departmental staff work performance, including informal, ongoing coaching and training
Completing evaluation forms and meeting with staff members for formal evaluations
Understanding and carrying out Weavers Way policies
Respond to employee disciplinary problems and grievances
Hold deli staff and sandwich station team meetings
Plant and Equipment / Sanitation and Safety
Ensure food prep and display areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition, meeting health department standards
Maintain back stock and supply storage areas for cleanliness and orderliness
Ensure proper storage and labeling procedures
Order and maintain equipment (such as pricing guns, etc.) and supplies as needed for the department
Check equipment to ensure safe and proper operation and report maintenance needs
General Management / Financial
Attend and actively participate in Management Team meetings
Maintain a whole-store perspective in all departmental decisions
Work with the General Manager and management team to establish and reach departmental budget goals including payroll hours, sales goals, pricing targets, margin goals, and inventory control
Read the day book each shift and other communications as released
Perform other duties as assigned / required
SCHEDULE
Full-time, five days a week. Flexibility in schedule required
Includes evenings and partial weekends
The schedule is also seasonal, hours generally increasing as holidays approach, especially at Passover, Rosh Hoshanna / Yom Kippur, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Requirements
NECESSARY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Commitment to the mission and goals of Weavers Way Co-operative Association
Flexible availability required; schedule will include closing shifts, holidays, partial weekends
Must possess some professional cooking experience, intermediate-level knife skills
Serv Safe Certified
Exhibited ability to work well in a team setting
Demonstrated ability to supervise staff - including hiring, training, evaluating, and directing - and cooperators
Strong communication skills with supervisors, staff, and members
Proven ability to courteously and efficiently serve members
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and remain calm under stress
Proven ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment when necessary
Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments
Demonstrated knowledge of products retailed through this department, with emphasis on cheeses, baked goods, natural and gourmet foods
Exhibited ability in purchasing, merchandising, and inventory control
Proven math skills and an understanding of the concepts of margin and return on investment
Proven ability to supervise staff
