Job Summary
This position will provide assistance in the preparation of the meals. Must deliver prepared food in proper containers to clients assigned through specific routes and designated time periods. Must work closely with other agency personnel; communicate effectively orally; deal tactfully with the public; establish and maintain an efficient, orderly kitchen; establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and peers; comprehend and follow instructions; make arithmetic calculations accurately at an acceptable speed; prioritize concurrent demands; work independently; maintain a courteous, helpful manner; work in a team environment.
Major Duties
- Practices proper food handling techniques and food safety procedures to prevent food contamination/poisoning and to ensure the quality of food is maintained.
- Follows safety procedures within the kitchen to promote a safe working environment.
- Ensures all food products (hot and cold) are kept in the proper thermal carrying bag.
- Performs cleaning duties to meet sanitation requirements.
- Assists with the overall cleaning of all pots and pans.
- Delivers meals promptly to comply with the HHSC guidelines.
- Serves food and beverages to meet client’s nutritional needs.
- Ensures the equipment is in good working order and requests repair work as needed.
- Attends and participates in all mandatory training requirements.
- Performs any other duties assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of food handling and safety techniques.
- Knowledge of hygiene practices.
- Keen sense of direction.
- Ability to deal with the public tactfully.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently and in teams.
- Ability to accurately calculate the number of servings.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
Minimum Qualifications
- Reliable vehicle.
- Must possess a valid and current Texas Driver’s License.
- Must obtain and maintain current vehicle insurance as required by the State of Texas.
Valid Texas Driver’s License*
- If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver’s License must be obtained prior to employment.

- Standards packaging food for delivery, help with preparing food, maintaining cleanliness, adhering to food safety, and delivering Meals to our elderly community while ensuring timely delivery and customer satisfaction.

- This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County Policies.
