Job Summary

Enforcing the Laws of the State of Texas and the performance of specific functions as designated.

Major Duties

  • Follow Webb County Sheriff's Officer Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Able to work with persons with psychological, emotional, and mental issues and be available 24 hours, 7 days on call.
  • Document information on all transports in written and / or electronic formats.
  • Must be able to prepare, maintain, and submit accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Mental Health Transport Coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Webb County Sheriff's Office organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate in both English and Spanish.
  • Be able to qualify with the semi-automatic weapon to proficiency of 70% or above.
  • Be able to use necessary force to restrain or defend the public.
  • Be able to fill out vehicle logs and books and Emergency Detainer order forms.
  • Experience in Civil Process and court procedures, and have knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, preferred.
  • Knowledge of juvenile law, transportation code, and traffic law, preferred.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Must be a certified TCOLE Peace Officer by the State of Texas.
  • Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Certification, preferred.

  • Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.
  • Working in hazardous conditions.
  • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug / alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.
  • This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
