JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the immediate supervision of an administrative superior, receives training in and performs a variety of unskilled construction, maintenance, repair, and snow removal work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs work at an entry level either on a permanent basis or where a period of training is desirable.
Performs a variety of unskilled road construction, maintenance, repair, and snow removal work including, loading and unloading trucks, setting up barricades, patching roads, cutting trees, bushes and weeds, and repairing culverts.
Receives training in and performs a variety of outdoor construction tasks including the construction of fences, guard rails, signs, bridges and other county facilities.
Receives training in and performs a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair work involving carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and cement work.
Performs tasks requiring the use of a variety of hand tools and equipment including picks, shovels, rakes and sprayers. Cleans, maintains, and stores assigned tools and equipment.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Education: Completion of high school or equivalent.
Experience: One (1) year of experience involving manual skills related to Building Construction, Alteration, Maintenance, and Repair Work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
Knowledge: Working knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools, and materials used in a variety of building maintenance functions.
Skills: Skilled in the use of a reference manual. Skilled in the use of standard equipment including, industrial vacuum, power washer, and lawn mower. Skilled in climbing ladders, using wrenches and other common hand and power tools, shovels, mobile radio, phone, floor buffers, walk-behind scrubbers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuum, mops, broom, dusting and lawn equipment.
Abilities: Ability to learn the methods, materials, and equipment necessary for construction, maintenance, repair, and snow removal work. Ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions. Ability to learn and follow standard safety practices. Ability to learn procedures common to construction, maintenance, repair, and snow removal operations. Ability to follow verbal instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
YOUR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be adaptable to changing work hours as shift hours may be changed.
Must be available to work late evenings, early mornings, and weekends (both Saturday and Sunday). Ability to be on call 24 hours a day.
Must have a telephone.
