A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Weber High School for a Secondary Aide (Emphasis: Student Advocacy). This position is for 5.75 hours per day, 9 months per year.

Purpose Statement:

 

The role of the Student Advocate Aide is to support students below proficiency in a relational, non-punitive manner, fostering trust and rapport. This role is essential in helping students build academic, behavioral, and social skills through encouragement and tailored guidance, allowing them to stay on pace or progress within the Weber School District graduation plan. Working under the guidance of the Counseling and Administration teams, the Advocate Aide will provide direct support, help students access school and community resources, and collaborate with all stakeholders in the student's educational journey.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Key Role in MTSS Framework: Actively support the MTSS program, focusing primarily on Tier 2 and Tier 3 students by monitoring, mentoring, and facilitating growth.
  • Relationship-Building with Students: Prioritize building trust-based relationships with students, addressing academic and behavioral needs only after establishing a connection. Work from the Student Support Center to provide individualized support.
  • Guidance and Advocacy: Offer holistic support to ensure students meet the academic and behavioral requirements to advance to the next grade level. This includes liaising with families, teachers, and community partners, and proactively monitoring attendance and behavioral indicators.
  • Academic Support and Coaching: Facilitate students' completion of progress charts, reinforce effective study skills, and guide them in transitioning back to Tier 1 support.
  • Continuous Communication: Maintain open, timely, and constructive communication with students, families, and staff to foster a strong school-home partnership.
  • Data Collection and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress in attendance, academic performance, and behavior, recording and reporting this information to inform interventions.
  • Record Keeping and Confidentiality: Document all relevant student and family interactions while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Student Supervision: Assist in supervising students both in instructional and non-instructional settings, ensuring a safe and supportive school environment.
  • Additional Support: Provide a safe, encouraging space for students to explore and build social-emotional skills, guiding them toward positive self-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional Growth: Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to meetings at the school and district levels.
  • Classroom Support and Substitute Coverage: Step into classrooms as needed to provide coverage, engage students in learning, and maintain continuity.
  • One-on-One and Small Group Support: Work closely with students individually and in small groups, offering tailored academic and SEL support.
  • Due to the dynamic nature of this position, additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned as necessary.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities):

  • Technical Proficiency: Competency in using Google Suite (especially Sheets and Docs) to track, analyze, and communicate student progress effectively.
  • Instructional Knowledge: Familiarity with tutoring, instructional, and intervention techniques suited to adolescents; ability to adapt support to students’ individual needs and development stages.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to creatively address students’ challenges, supporting them in setting and achieving their goals.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and empathetic communication with students, staff, families, and community partners, fostering open and supportive relationships.

Job Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with students in a school or related environment is preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in education, social work, or counseling is beneficial.
