Purpose Statement:
The Financial and Budgeting Analyst position supports Weber School District's strategic objectives by providing accurate and timely budgetary and financial data to schools, departments, and district leadership. This position is critical in budgeting, financial monitoring, and long-term fiscal planning to ensure sound financial practices and strategic resource allocation. Reporting to the Business Administrator, the Financial Analyst will work closely with school administrators and department leaders to train and support effective budget management.
Essential Functions:
- Develop, implement, and maintain processes to help schools and departments track spending, estimate carryover, and forecast future financial needs.
- Foster strong financial relationships with site-level budget owners, including principals, department directors, and bookkeepers, to provide excellent customer service.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal grants, ensuring district financial systems reflect accurate and reconciled grant budgets.
- Design and deliver training materials, workshops, and presentations on budget creation, management, and reporting for administrators and staff.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars to gather and disseminate information on budgeting and financial operations.
- Conduct research on financial and administrative topics, providing recommendations and insights to improve district financial practices.
- Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, including principals, department directors, and the public, providing guidance and implementing plans to resolve financial concerns efficiently.
- Recommend policies and procedures to enhance the district's financial operations, ensuring compliance with state and district guidelines.
- Prepare reports, documents, and supporting materials to convey financial information and maintain transparency.
- Collaborate with the Business Administrator and Director of Accounting to establish and maintain robust internal controls, safeguarding district assets and ensuring accurate financial records.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, posting entries to ensure the district’s financial data is accurate and up to date.
- Innovatively collaborate with district leadership to build and maintain user-friendly budgetary reports and dashboards for principals, bookkeepers, and other stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
- Prior experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or related fields, preferably within an educational or public sector setting.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of budgeting principles, financial management, and grant administration.
- Proficient in financial software systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to train and support diverse stakeholders.
