Job Description:
Occupational therapists in schools help students with disabilities participate in their education. They may work on fine motor skills, sensory processing, or self-care skills to improve students' independence and learning.
Under the direction of the Special Education Department, an Occupational Therapist performs the following duties (not an exhaustive list):
- Evaluate and interpret evaluations and test results
- Formulate student occupational profile through a variety of assessments
- Document occupational therapy services to guarantee responsibility of service provision
- Assessing Pre K-Post High students' functional physical development level
- Planning and implementing appropriate treatment to meet individual student objectives
- Identifying architectural barriers
- Providing recommendations for accessibility
- Program development and student placement
- Providing direction to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants
- Deliver direct services
- Participate in the IEP process
- Develop goals for individual student IEPs
- Track progress for the purpose of reporting student progress and documentation of services
- Write reports in relation to evaluation and reporting progress toward goals
- Ensure paperwork is completed in a timely manner
- Communicate with parents and school teams regarding needs of student in relation to their educational services
- Maintain flexibility, such as changes in staff or individual student programs
- Attend required district meetings and events
- Drive to schools throughout the district
- Regular attendance is critical
- Perform other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications: Education Requirements:
- Must have at least a Master's in Occupational Therapy
- Must have a valid Utah OT license
- Recent pediatric or schools-based experience is preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Requires the mobility to reach and bend (neck and back)
- Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects
- Requires mobility to maneuver through classroom and school environments independently
- Requires lifting and carrying of objects of up to 50 pounds, which may be a frequent aspect of the job
- Requires pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds, which is a rare aspect of the job
- May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)
- Requires independent transportation throughout the Weber School District geographical area
