A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Orchard Springs Elementary for an Art Teacher. This position is for 4.00 hours per day, 182 days (9 months) per year. This position is funded generously by the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program; as funding is not always guaranteed, the continuation of this position will be reviewed on a yearly basis.

Job Overview :
Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.
The arts educator works collaboratively with the regular classroom teachers to deliver quality, sequential and developmental arts instruction in alignment with the state Fine Arts Core Curriculum. This program brings music, visual arts, dance and theater into the classroom. And, as the art form integrates with language arts, math, social studies and science, it helps reinforce the Utah Core Standards. Arts integration provides students with a deeper level of understanding in grade-level core content and enriches the learning experience for both students and teachers.
Arts Specialists / Educators provide exemplary arts instruction-teaching side-by-side with the classroom teachers-that is integrated into the core curriculum as part of the statewide BTSALP. The program operates under the direction of the Utah State Office of Education through legislative funding.
Teach weekly 30-45 minute sessions with each class participating in the BTSALP to model the art form and side-by-side teaching.Have monthly team meetings with classroom teachers from every grade to plan for comprehensive, integrated arts curriculum in at least one other core curriculum subjectAttend regional BTSALP professional development meetings throughout the year hosted by Weber State University and the USOE.Plan informances, performances and / or exhibits to celebrate student's arts learning with parents at least once per year. Provide event dates in advance to Weber State University.Serve on the in-school arts team to set goals and objectives to meet criteria set forth in the school.Contract time will be the same as all teachers within the district.Other duties and responsibilities as defined by the BTSALP programTeaches subject matter, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction.Utilizes computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.Controls the storage and use of district owned property; makes minor adjustments and request repairs as required.Maintains classroom organization and discipline.Establishes and maintains Standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.Provides and maintains a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and the school grounds.Devises and utilizes techniques which accurately measure students' progress.Evaluates student's academic and personal growth keeping appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.Communicates with parents through conferences and other means discussing academic and personal progress; interpret school programs.Communicates and cooperates with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas.Demonstrates professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.Conforms to district policies including attendance, absences and evaluations.Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions.Possesses problem solving skills.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, school, staff, district staff, and patrons.Communicates effectively.Job Qualifications :
Has knowledge of State Core Curriculum and Board of Education adopted guides.BTSALP Arts Specialist / Teachers must be licensed educators with the corresponding art form endorsement. The specialist must either hold a secondary license and a K-12 endorsement in the art form, or an elementary license with an Elementary Level 2 Art form endorsement, or have a secondary or elementary license and qualify for a State Approved Endorsement Plan (SAEP) in the art form.
