Job Description
Weber State University seeks a Full-Time Instructor to teach first-year composition and reading. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a large student body in the context of a dual-mission public university. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal at the sole discretion of the university based on performance and funding availability.
Job Duties
The teaching load for this position is 12-credit hours per semester. The primary responsibility for this position is teaching courses in foundational writing and reading for students who are academically underprepared. Opportunities to teach other courses will be based on expertise and departmental needs. Additional responsibilities include:
- Participation in assessment of first-year writing and reading
- Possible work as a writing tutor or as an instructor in a learning community
- Collaboration with faculty and staff to support international and multilingual students
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in English, Composition, Writing Studies or related field
- Two years of experience teaching English at the college level
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or EdD in in English, Composition, Writing Studies or related field
- Evidence of expertise in writing pedagogy and assessment
- Experience and/or training in ESOL or English language learning
- Fluency in a language other than English
