JOB DESCRIPTION
COUNSELORS
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in guidance and counseling.
- Level appropriate, valid Missouri Certificate in guidance and counseling
- Valid Missouri Psychological Examiner’s Certificate preferred.
- Updated transcript of college credit.
TERMS OF CONTRACT: 205 days (individual contracts may be adjusted by mutual agreement of the counselor and the board of education), compensation per salary schedule.
REPORT TO: Building principal
PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential job skills/knowledge and abilities:
- Become informed concerning rules, policies and regulations of the school and interpret and carry out regulations in daily programs.
- Develop effective professional relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Implement the building level guidance curriculum.
- Guide and counsel individual students and groups through the development of educational and career plans.
- Counsel small groups and individual students with problems.
- Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
- Complete assigned diagnostic work for students.
- Refer students with severe problems to appropriate school/community resources in consultation with parents.
- Participate in, coordinate and/or conduct activities, which contribute to the effective operation of the school.
- Participate in the evaluation and revision of the district guidance program as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of pertinent data/information.
- Pursue professional growth.
- Assist in development of student enrollment and class schedules.
- Other duties as assigned by the school principal.
EVALUATION: Formative and summative evaluation per board of education policy. Frequency will depend upon length of employment and other factors relating to job performance.
